Aam Aadmi Party said that the decision of Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant to give State Assembly complex a facelift by splurging Rs.7 crore is yet another mockery being made of people of the State. AAP said it was expected that government would understand the difficult plight and situation the people of Goa are into and allocate funds for welfare of people. AAP Youth Leader Lourenco Silva wondered whether Govt was aware that thousands of people employed in the tourism and allied services have lost their jobs and livelihood and business activities in all sectors of industry had been affected.
He said that those working on daily wages like motorcycle pilots, tempo/rickshaw drivers, taxis or contractual workers employed in industries have no earning to have a daily bread for them and their families.
“The people of Goa are in such a miserable state and indulging in facelift of assembly complex or on a palace for governor is nothing but rubbing salt on wounds of people” said Lourenco.
Meanwhile, AAP leader Rahul Mhambre said that there were students who do not have mobile phones to attend online classes which are conducted by schools and the government should supply them with smart phones.
“Not only in remote rural villages but even in cities like Mapusa many students are deprived of education as their families cannot afford a smart phone. Although NGOs like Rotary and others have stepped in and assisted the students by providing them refurbished phones, many students still need these devices. Spend Rs.7 crore to provide smart phone to school students instead of thinking about Assembly that never meets” said Rahul adding that with Rs.7 crores, lives of at least 10,000 students would change for the better.
