VASCO:
In yet another blow to the Goa International Airport at Dabolim, the Spicejet Airways stopped it’s operations from the Dabolim Airport this has kicked up another storm after the Qatar Airways decided to shift to Mopa.
However, the Airport director at Dabolim now says that Spicejet shifting is not new.
The Goa International airport Director Dhananjaya Rao said that it had been six months that the Spicejet had stopped operating from the Goa Airport
“The Spice jet has closed down operations and they last operated from this airport was probably in October last year. Since then they are not operating from here and it is their business decision,” said Rao.
He stated that in the end of October last year, they were operating only about one or two flights per day and they finally stopped operating from here and they are not operating now.
“There is no particular reason for this and there is a lot of misconception, with even some news articles stating that Dabolim Airport is costlier to operate which is absolutely wrong. Some newspapers in the name of rescue of Dabolim Airport are spreading wrong messages and providing false information that is damaging the Dabolim Airport’s prospects. In fact the UDF charges and the operating cost at Dabolim Airport is less compared to others,” said Rao.
The director said that Dabolim Airport will continue to grow and operational facilities will continue to improve and this airport is having a very good potential.
“We have a good operation happening and also a very good schedule of flights operating at Goa Airport,” said Rao.
