Panaji: Sporting Club Davorlim emerged victorious over Guardian Angel SC with a 5-4 win via the tiebreaker in the Betalbatim Villagers Cup inter-village football tournament, organised by Betalbatim Sporting Club and held at the Betalbatim Panchayat ground.
The closely contested match ended in a 1-1 draw at the end of regulation time. Guardian Angel SC took an early lead through Jaison Dias in the 6th minute, but Sporting Club Davorlim struck back in the 25th minute, courtesy of an equaliser from William Niasso.
In the dramatic penalty shootout that followed, William Niasso, Aeren Figueiredo, M. Ajay Raj, and Milton Colaco converted their chances for Davorlim. For Guardian Angel SC, Milroy Clemente, Fedrich Fernandes, and Godwin Costa found the back of the net.
William Niasso of Sporting Club Davorlim, who scored the equaliser and converted in the tiebreaker, was named Man of the Match. He received the award from former international footballer Arnald Afonso.
