Panaji: St. Anne’s Institute from Agonda produced a commanding performance to dominate the Canacona Taluka Level Girls Football Tournament, emerging champions in both the Under 17 and Under 14 categories. The competition, held at the taluka level, witnessed energetic participation from several schools, but the Agonda side stood out with its discipline, coordination and attacking flair.
In the Under 17 final, St. Anne’s Institute delivered a one sided display against Government High School, Govol Khola, registering a convincing 5–0 victory. The match was controlled from the opening minutes as the Agonda players combined quick passing with sharp movement inside the box. State level player Gwyneth Fernandes led the charge with an impressive hat trick, while Aisha Naik Gaonkar added two well taken goals to complete the rout. The defensive line of St. Anne’s also remained solid, denying their opponents any clear opportunity throughout the contest.
The dominance continued in the Under 14 section where the same opponent faced another heavy defeat. St. Anne’s Institute overpowered Government High School, Govol Khola by 4–0, once again dictating the pace of the game. Goals came from Uriel Fernandes, Vardhana Velip, Shakshi Velip and Valika Monteiro, highlighting the depth of talent across different positions. The young squad displayed maturity beyond its years with accurate passing and confident finishing.
The coach of St. Anne’s Institute, Anjelo Silva, dedicated the twin triumphs to the hard work and unity shown by the players during training and competition. According to him, the girls executed their plans with commitment and played as a cohesive unit in both finals.
The school leadership expressed pride over the achievement and praised the students for bringing honour to the institution. Headmaster Cedric Monteiro and Manager Rev. Fr. Patrick Luis encouraged the teams to maintain the same spirit as they prepare for the upcoming district level play offs. The double success has strengthened St. Anne’s reputation as a growing centre for girls football in the region and has inspired many younger students to take up the sport with confidence.
