PANAJI: St Joseph Vaz College, Cortalim emerged overall champions of the Goa University Inter Collegiate Cycling Men’s Championship 2025–26, following an impressive performance at the event held on December 11 at Navelim. The championship brought together college cyclists from across Goa and showcased endurance, strategy and teamwork over a demanding long distance course.
Organised by Rosary College of Commerce and Arts, Navelim under the aegis of Goa University, the competition saw participation from around 50 cyclists representing various colleges. The riders competed over a challenging 35 kilometre route that tested stamina and tactical awareness throughout the race.
St Joseph Vaz College secured the championship title through consistent finishes by their cyclists, while the host institution Rosary College of Commerce and Arts, Navelim claimed the runners up position. Sant Sohirobanath Ambiye Government College of Arts and Commerce, Pernem finished third overall, rounding off the podium in the team standings.
In the individual category, the top honours went to Atharv Sawant of Sant Sohirobanath Ambiye Government College of Arts and Commerce, Pernem, who produced a strong ride to finish first. Bhavesh Naik of St Joseph Vaz College, Cortalim secured second place, contributing significantly to his college’s overall championship success. Vignesh Naik, also representing St Joseph Vaz College, finished third, underlining the depth and strength of the winning team.
The valedictory ceremony was attended by several dignitaries from the sporting and academic community. Former minister and accomplished sportsman Avertano Furtado was the chief guest, while the principal of Rosary College of Commerce and Arts, Helic Barreto, attended as guest of honour. Officials and sports administrators from Goa University and various colleges were also present, lending prestige to the occasion.
Medals and trophies were presented to the winners, marking the successful conclusion of the championship. The event not only highlighted competitive cycling talent at the collegiate level but also reinforced the growing emphasis on endurance sports within the university sporting calendar.
