Panaji: St. Xavier’s College emerged champions of the Inter Collegiate Men’s Hockey Championship 2025 to 26 after an impressive run in the tournament organised by Goa University. The four day event was held from February 17 to 20 at the Hockey Turf, Dayanand Bandodkar Krida Sankool, and featured participation from nine college teams across the state.
In a high scoring final, St. Xavier’s College defeated Sridora Caculo College of Commerce and Management Studies by 5 to 2 to lift the championship trophy. The Mapusa based team displayed strong attacking play and control throughout the contest to secure a convincing victory.
Earlier in the semifinals, St. Xavier’s College edged past Government College Pernem with a narrow 2 to 1 win to book their place in the title clash. Sridora Caculo College advanced to the final after registering a dominant 4 to 0 victory over Government College Quepem.
For his outstanding performance during the tournament, Mr Sandesh Honakhande of St. Xavier’s College was honoured with the Best Player award in the men’s category.
The prize distribution ceremony was attended by Prof. Santosh B. Patkar, Principal of S. Caculo College, Associate Prof. Smriti Borkar, Vice Principal of Sridora Caculo College, Mr Tony Salema, Administrator of St. Xavier’s College, and Captain Dr Sam Braganza, Director of Physical Education and Sports at Government College Pernem. They were joined by Balachandra B. Jadar, Assistant Director of Physical Education and Sports at Goa University, who together presented medals and trophies to the winners and runners up teams.
The St. Xavier’s College squad comprised Injmamul Khan, Valentino Sequeira, Royce Severino Monteiro, Jordan Emmanuel Mathew Lobo, Shreyash Shrikant Gawas, Gibson Nazareth Fernandes, Aryan Satish Kandolkar, Shrihari Dhamanekar, Yuvraj Pundlik Rajput, Omkar Vinod Dhamanekar, Sandesh Shivaji Honakhande, Biswajit Mohanty, Steve Rodrigues, Jeeva, Kevin Dsouza, Vedant Chandrakant Chandekar and Shalil Ashram Arolkar.
