Margao: St. Xavier’s College celebrated its 60th Annual Sports Meet on December 13, 2025, with spirited participation from students, faculty and invited guests, underscoring the institution’s long-standing commitment to sports and physical fitness.
The programme began with a welcome address by Administrator Rev. Fr. Antonio Salema, followed by the ceremonial hoisting of the flag by the Chief Guest, Superintendent of Police Edwin Colaco. The occasion set a vibrant tone for the day’s events, marked by discipline, enthusiasm and sportsmanship.
In her address, Officiating Principal Ursula Barreto reaffirmed the college’s focus on promoting a balanced and healthy lifestyle through active engagement in sports and extracurricular activities. An impressive march-past by students from various academic streams followed, reflecting coordination and team spirit. The torch relay, symbolising sporting excellence, was led by Prachit Gaonkar, Chanel Crizzle, Yousuf Mainuddin Shaikh and Swezial D’Souza.
The college’s sporting achievements were outlined by Joslyn D’Souza, Director of Physical Education and Sports, highlighting the steady progress made by students across disciplines.
Track and field events, including the 100 metres, 200 metres and relay races for both boys and girls, formed the core of the competition, with athletes displaying speed, stamina and agility. The college grounds resonated with cheers from students and spectators, creating an atmosphere of excitement throughout the day. The tug of war emerged as one of the most engaging events, featuring a closely contested battle between the SYBCom, BBA and BBA (TT) teams.
A special highlight was the jumble march-past, where different classes creatively showcased the theme “Healthy Minds and Active Bodies,” earning widespread appreciation from the audience.
Addressing the gathering, Chief Guest Edwin Colaco congratulated the participants and encouraged students to embrace discipline, teamwork and healthy living as integral parts of their personal and professional lives.
The Sports Meet concluded with a prize distribution ceremony, during which TY BCom was declared overall champion for the academic year 2025–2026. Arthur D’Souza was named Sportsman of the Year for his outstanding all-round performance. The event ended with the lowering of the flag and the singing of the National Anthem.
