PANAJI: St. Xavier’s College, Mapusa, Goa College of Engineering, Farmagudi, Vidya Prabodhini and Dhempe College of Arts & Science, Miramar scored wins in the Goa University Inter Collegiate Football Championship 2024-25 for Men.
At Goa University Ground
In the inaugural match of the championship held at Goa University Ground, St. Xavier’s College, Mapusa triumphed over SV’s Sridora Caculo College of Commerce & Management Studies, Mapusa, concluding the match with a final score of 1-0. The first half ended with a score of 0-0, with both teams demonstrating balanced offensive and defensive strategies. However, in the second half, Mr. Shaviz Khan netted the only goal of the match in the 49th minute, capitalizing on a minor error by the goalkeeper in securing the ball.
In the second match, Goa College of Engineering, Farmagudi, achieved a commanding victory over Dnyanprassarak Mandal’s College and Research Centre, Assagao, with a final score of 4-1. The first half was particularly engaging, featuring three goals: the first by Shanon Vaz in the 5th minute, followed by Selwyn Fernando in the 8th minute, and Ketan Khandeparkar in the 19th minute. At the ending time of the first half, a goal from Anuj Goud of DM’s College in the 32 minutes gave some hope going to the second half. In the second half, Goa College of Engineering further secured their win by adding another goal in the 50th minute which came from Aryan Carvalho.
At Rosary College Ground
The inaugural match of the championship held at Rosary ground, Navelim saw Vidya Prabodhini College of Commerce, Education, Computer and Management, Porvorim triumph over S.S.A’s Government College of Arts & Commerce, Pernem with a final score of 1-0. Vidya Prabodhini secured the lead with a goal in the 17th minute of the first half, maintaining a score of 1-0. The second half concluded without any additional goals, as both teams’ defences performed admirably.
In the second match, Dhempe College of Arts & Science, Miramar, triumphed over St. Joseph Vaz College, Cortalim-Murmagao, with a score of 3-0. The attacking team from Dhempe College managed to secure all three goals during the first half, with Shashank Kenkre netting goals in the 5th and 31st minutes and Aditya Balekar contributing a goal in the 9th minute. The second half saw no further scoring, resulting in a final score of 3-0 in favour of Dhempe College.
