CANACONA: Health officials and the Canacona Municipal Council (CMC) jointly inspected a stagnant rivulet at Kepe-Arkar, located between Patnem and Ponsulem, following complaints of foul odour and water contamination.
The inspection was prompted after Councillor Shubham Komarpant raised concerns regarding the deteriorating water quality and the strong stench emanating from the site. Komarpant had formally reported the issue to both the CMC and the Canacona Health Officer, warning that the stagnant water posed a serious health risk to local residents.
During the visit, Sanitary Inspector Pranay Naik identified several outlet pipes discharging into the water body. Preliminary findings suggest that nearby hotels and other establishments may be releasing untreated sewage and garbage into the rivulet. Naik confirmed that a detailed investigation will follow and notices will be issued to those found responsible.
CMC Supervisor Kanay Desai also participated in the inspection. Local residents, while appreciating the timely intervention by Councillor Komarpant, have urged authorities to take swift action to halt the flow of raw sewage and preserve the natural environment.
