PORVORIM: Minister for Fisheries Nilkanth Halarnkar said that people should come forward to harvesting freshwater fishing through cage culture in a technical way.
“People should come forward to harvest freshwater fishing through cage culture in a technical way. We intend to promote freshwater fishing to increase fish production and to fulfil the demand for fish in the State,” said Halarnkar.
He further said that stocking fingerlings are the mainstay of reservoir fisheries development, which will facilitate fish production on a sustainable basis.
“Auto stocking is not possible and requires a regular stocking programme to use the productive potential of the water body,” he said.
The Minister also acquainted himself with the Ornamental fish productivity cultivated in the farm and directed to keep and sell more ornamental fish.
The Minister later flagged off the Fish Festival Program “Agua Goa Mega Fish Festival 2023, at Secretariat in Porvorim.
This Mega Event, “Aqua Goa Mega Fish festival”, showcasing Goa’s rich, varied and amazing underwater, will be held from 10th to 12th February 2023 at SAG Ground at Campal, Panaji.
He said that three days extravaganza event will highlight the Aquarium fish Gallery, commercial stalls, Live fish pond, Competition and contest for children, adults and fishermen association, Entertainment program and seminars.
“The festival will provide a platform for stakeholders to unite to build a strong economy in the Fisheries Sector. He added that eminent speakers and scientists from various prestigious Institutions will be available to interact at the festival.
