PANJIM: Lourdes Basketball Club, Don Bosco Sports Academy, YMCA Knights, and KJs stormed into the men’s semifinals after an electrifying Day Three of the State Senior Basketball Championships for Men and Women, co-sponsored by Priority Constructions and organised by Lourdes Basketball Club in association with the Goa Basketball Association and the Sports Authority of Goa. The Don Bosco Oratory witnessed a full day of high-energy clashes, standout performances, and top-tier basketball.
In the first men’s quarterfinal, Lourdes Basketball Club cruised past DBO Panjim 68–41, with Goa star Jeshua Pinto dominating the court with 27 points and Jordan Xavier adding 15 points. DBO’s young brigade fought valiantly, led by Ryan Prabhudesai (12 pts) and Avner Mendonca (8 pts).
Don Bosco Sports Academy powered into the semis with a 61–24 win over Ponda Basketball Club, thanks to strong contributions from Tanish Lotlikar (20 pts) and Yash (14 pts). Ponda’s resistance came through Ayush (7 pts) and Kunal Patil (5 pts).
The third quarterfinal turned into a scoring spectacle as YMCA Knights defeated Sonics 85–61. Goan star Shaun Aranjo was unstoppable with a massive 37 points, supported by centre Jaedan Vas (20 pts). Sonics fought hard through Arthur De Souza (20 pts) and Chhavy Sirohi (17 pts).
In the final quarterfinal, KJs overcame Knights Veterans 66–60 in a gripping battle. Former India player Austin (19 pts) and evergreen Goan legend Spencer Viegas (16 pts) rolled back the years with vintage performances. But KJs held their nerve, driven by Arun Kumar (18 pts), Salman Syed (14 pts) and Shiv Kumar (10 pts).
In the women’s division, Sonics registered a commanding 51–28 win over Lourdes Basketball Club, fuelled by standout efforts from Keiya (19 pts) and Fleur Vas (16 pts). LBC’s Sejal Kudnekar shone with an excellent 18-point display.
In another women’s league match, Jade defeated Lourdes Basketball Club 34–17, with Atika Suriya (15 pts) and Amisha Lotlikar (7 pts) leading the scoring. Sejal Kudnekar once again impressed for LBC with 7 points.
