PANAJI: The State Commission of Persons with Disabilities, in collaboration with the Directorate of Industries, Trade and Commerce, organized a session titled “Employment for Persons with Disabilities in Private Sector”, on the occasion of Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSME) Day celebration on 27th June 2023 at the EDC house, Panaji-Goa.
The inaugural was attended by the Chief Guest, Swetika Sachan, IAS, Directorate of Industries Trade and Commerce; Special Guest, Taha Haaziq, Secretary State of Commission for Persons with Disabilities, and guest of Honour Damodar Kochkar, President Goa State Industries Association, Rajkumar Kamat, President, Laghu Udyog Bharti, Executive Director, BNI Goa Region, Pravimal Abhishek, IAS, Managing Director, Goa Industrial Development Corporation, and Ralph D’Souza, President, Goa Chamber of Commerce and Industries in the presence of esteemed officials, representatives from various industries, entrepreneurs, and MSME representatives.
The session aimed to emphasize the role and opportunities of MSMEs in achieving sustainable development goals, promoting innovation, and providing livelihoods to millions. It also focused on creating a platform for persons with disabilities for employment in the private sector.
Taha Haaziq, Secretary of State of the Commission for Persons with Disabilities, extended a hand of partnership to GCCI, BNI, and GIDC to plan effective employment for persons with disabilities in the private sector. He said, “I have travelled across the country and witnessed diverse mindsets, but Goa is unique and embraces people from all states. He further added, “Why don’t we make Goa an inclusive state where everyone has space, not as a charity, but as a right. Empowering the disabled and giving them dignity in society is what they need and is in sync with the theme for today- Employment for Persons with Disabilities in the Private sector.”
On the occasion, Pravimal Abhishek, IAS, Managing Director, Goa Industrial Development Corporation, addressed the gathering. “We at IDC have a plan to organize MSME EXPO for all the MSMEs in the industrial estate to display their products, attract customers, and showcase their potential. We are also working on simplifying the acts and rules and launching a new portal for IDC to make doing business easier and faster. With the cooperation of the Directorate of Industries, Trade and Commerce (DITC), we are confident that we can transform Goa into a desirable destination for business,” he said.
The event also featured sessions on creating employment opportunities for persons with disabilities in the private sector by Taha Haaziq, and on a food processing scheme for formalizing micro-enterprises by Yeshwant Tuyekar.
