PANAJI: A State Level Table Top Exercise was conducted by Goa State Disaster Management Authority in collaboration with National Disaster Management Authority today with the main aim to set the stage for smooth conduct of the State Level Mock Exercise on Cyclones scheduled on 3rd March 2023 in both North Goa and South Goa Districts.
This Mock exercise will aim to enhance the level of Disaster preparedness with respect to cyclones and identify the gaps. Various scenarios shall be exercised in each District, including the Evacuation of the vulnerable population in the Colva Village in the South and Aivao Village in the North, followed by Search and Rescue & Relief Operations. A specialized rescue operation shall be carried out by the NDRF at the simulation site of a high-rise building for Heli rescue. The rescued and injured victims shall be rushed to the District Hospital in South Goa with ESI Hospital as the alternative and Manipal Hospitals in North with Government Medical College as the alternative health facility in case of a surge.
The Gala of the Tourism Department is for building damage/Collapse Scenario in South Goa, and an Entertainment Industry in the North shall be assumed as Industries affected by the Cyclone. There shall be a scenario of a damaged Manura Petroleum Petrol Pump and CNG Station.
The venue of the staging area in South Goa shall be open ground next to PJNS – Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, Fatorda. Indoor Badminton Stadium opposite the swimming complex Fatorda in South Goa shall be the Rescue Shelter Home. Goa University Jubilee Hall will be the main stage area with Incident Command Post, Helipad, Relief and Medical camp area in North Goa.
With an eye on the forthcoming G20 Presidencies scheduled in the State of Goa, this exercise will be setting the stage for safety and security management for the entire State and also augur well for preparedness and capacity building for monsoon season.
The general public are informed not to worry and create panic and cooperate for the smooth conduct of the State Level Mock Exercise on Cyclones as it is a mock exercise only.
