CANACONA: A State Level Science Project Competition themed “Science for Human Betterment” was held on Saturday at Shree Mallikarjun Higher Secondary School of Science, Arts and Commerce, Canacona. The event was organised in collaboration with the Department of Science and Technology and Waste Management, Porvorim-Goa, and featured 20 innovative projects from higher secondary schools across the state.
Shree Damodar Higher Secondary School of Science, Margao, emerged as the winner, taking home a cash prize of ₹20,000 and a trophy. Shiroda Higher Secondary School secured the second prize with ₹15,000 and a trophy, while St Andrew Higher Secondary School, Vasco, claimed the third prize along with ₹10,000 and a trophy.
Cuncolim United Higher Secondary School, Cuncolim, and S. S. Angle Higher Secondary School, Mashem–Canacona, received the first and second consolation prizes respectively.
The competition was inaugurated by CPI Managing Committee Chairman Shamba Molu Naik Desai. Speakers at the event included Sanjay Amonkar (Director General, Goa Chamber of Commerce & Industry), Vivek Phadte (Technical Officer, Department of Science and Technology and Waste Management), and Dr. Dilkush Molu Velip (Department of Occupational Therapy, GMC), who also motivated participants.
A welcome song was presented by students of Shree Mallikarjun Higher Secondary School. CPI Vice Chairman Ram Desai delivered the welcome address, while Mrs. Pranita Fal Desai hosted the programme.
The judging panel comprised Dr. Suraj Surendra Rane (Professor, GEC), Dr. Mithil S. Fal Desai (Assistant Professor in Chemistry) and Miss Priya Velip (Assistant Professor in Botany). The vote of thanks was proposed by Omkar Desai, Secretary of the CPI Managing Committee.
