PANAJI: The State Government has announced a new welfare scheme, ‘Divya Niwaas Yojana’, aimed at providing monthly financial assistance to organisations and NGOs that manage residential care facilities or halfway homes for Persons with Disabilities (PwDs).
Under the initiative, eligible institutions will receive Rs 4 lakh per month to support their operations.
Additionally, a one-time grant of Rs 50,000 will be provided every five years for the purchase of essential items such as furniture and utensils.
According to the Department for Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities, organisations must house a minimum of 20 residents to qualify for the scheme.
The assistance is intended to ensure adequate shelter, nutritious food, medical care, and improved living conditions for the beneficiaries.
The department clarified that the financial aid will be disbursed based on submission of valid supporting documents, including bills, receipts, and vouchers.
Furthermore, beneficiary organisations are required to bear 25% of the total expenditure, with the department reimbursing the remaining 75% based on verified claims.
The scheme reflects the government’s commitment to enhancing the quality of life for PwDs through structured institutional support.
