PANAJI: The Government has terminated the lease deed dated June 19, 1997 executed by the Government of Goa with Indian Resort Hotels Limited (now M/S The Indian Hotels Company Limited) and the said termination shall be effective from six months from the date of issue of the order.
The Department of Tourism had acquired land admeasuring 313630 sq. mts. at Aguada Plateau, Sinquerim, Candolim, Bardez under survey No. 96/0(part) at the cost of Rs. 53.02 lakhs to provide recreational and amusement facilities to the tourists.
It may be informed that an area of 3.00 lakhs square metres from the above said land was leased out to M/s. Indian Resort Hotels Limited, Candolim, Bardez – Goa by executing a Deed of lease, dated June 19, 1997 between the Government of Goa and M/s. Indian Resort Hotels Limited, for a period of 50 years commencing from July 1, 1997 and ending on June 30, 2047 for the purpose of developing a Recreational and amusement park of international standards with allied facilities to be operative within 12 months at Aguada, Sinquerim, Bardez – Goa for a monthly lease rent of Rs. 1.00 Crore to the Government w.e.f. July 1, 1998. However, M/s. Indian Resort Hotels Limited failed to pay the lease rent from the due date i.e from July 1, 1998 onwards.
A notice was issued to M/s. Indian Resort Hotels Limited, directing to pay the lease rent amount w.e.f. July 1, 1998. However, M/s. Indian Resort Hotels Limited failed to make the payment till date.
It is further informed that M/s. Indian Resort Hotels Limited is directed to handover vacant and peaceful possession of the said premises on or before expiry of six months from the date of issue of the order and has been further directed to pay the arrears of rent along with interest amounting to Rs. 65, 02,47,123/- (Rupees Sixty Five Crores Two Lakhs Forty Seven Thousand One Hundred and Twenty Three only), within a period of 30 days from the date of receipt of the order failing which the Collector North Goa is directed to take over the possession of the said premises.
