SANKHALI: The State government’s month-long “Check by Doctor” initiative has intensified preventive healthcare outreach for women across Goa, with screening camps being organised at health facilities statewide.
A special camp held at the Community Health Centre in Sankhali saw 935 women availing services, while more than 40,000 beneficiaries across Goa have undergone health check-ups since the campaign began on March 8. The initiative focuses on early detection of common health conditions and improving awareness among women about regular medical screening.
The camp provided tests for hypertension, diabetes, breast and oral cancer, anaemia and reproductive tract infections. Services such as Pap smear tests, sputum testing, AYUSH OPD consultations and family planning counselling were also offered. Maternal and adolescent health services, including pregnancy and postnatal check-ups, counselling and HPV vaccination for young girls to prevent cervical cancer, were part of the programme.
Chief Minister Dr. Pramod Sawant said women often prioritise their families and neglect their own health, emphasising that healthier women contribute to stronger families and communities. He added that the initiative, launched on International Women’s Day, has received encouraging participation across the State.
He also underlined the importance of early diagnosis and public awareness, particularly in the fight against tuberculosis, and urged citizens to seek timely medical attention for persistent symptoms. The Chief Minister appreciated the efforts of doctors, nurses and healthcare staff for implementing the programme across Goa.
The “Check by Doctor” campaign is being conducted at Primary Health Centres, Community Health Centres, Urban Health Centres, sub-district hospitals and district hospitals, as part of the government’s push to strengthen preventive healthcare and expand access to screening services for women.
