DABOLIM: A moving Kadamba Transport Corporation passenger bus had a narrow escape on Thursday evening after steel TMT bars from the bridge-pillar construction site suddenly fell onto its roof along the Dabolim road.
The incident occurred when the bus was passing directly near the ongoing construction work and a bundle of TMT bars fell from the structure. The bars landed heavily on the bus, denting the roof and causing minor damage, triggering panic among passengers for a brief moment.
According to sources, the bus was en route from Vasco to Verna side along the Dabolim stretch when the material fell without warning from the worksite. The driver immediately slowed down and pulled over to assess the situation. Fortunately,no injuries were reported to passengers or staff.
Locals have pointed out the lapse in safety precautions at the construction point and have demanded the contractor to ensure strict adherence to protective measures, including securing materials and installing safety nets to prevent such mishaps.
The incident has raised concerns among daily commuters who frequently travel along the busy corridor, with many urging the authorities to enforce stringent safety protocols at all infrastructure project sites to avoid potentially serious accidents.
