Porvorim: Porvorim MLA and Tourism Minister Rohan Khaunte warned against attempts to politicise and obstruct development works under the Centre’s Swadesh Darshan Scheme, alleging that false information is being spread for narrow political gains. He said such actions would not be tolerated and added that those indulging in misinformation would face consequences.
Khaunte was speaking at a corner meeting at Salay organised in support of BJP candidate Sandeep Salgaonkar from the Penha de Franca Zilla Panchayat constituency. BJP ST Morcha State President Dattaram Redkar and other panchayat members were present on the occasion.
Accusing a few disgruntled elements of running a negative campaign against the project, Khaunte said they were driven by personal interests rather than concern for society. He assured that all works under the Swadesh Darshan Scheme would be implemented by the Tourism Department strictly in line with public needs and expectations.
Taking a swipe at the opposition, Khaunte said individuals with little standing in society become active only during elections. He claimed that the withdrawal of a community candidate to support the Congress reflected the opposition’s weak social base.
Reiterating BJP’s stand against caste-based politics, Khaunte said the party believes in humanity above all else. “The development and transformation of Porvorim are visible for everyone to see,” he said.
He urged detractors to stop politicising development projects, alleging that while they neither work themselves nor allow others to work, the BJP has consistently addressed issues related to roads, electricity and water supply in Porvorim. He added that the party’s united approach has earned it continued public support.
Khaunte also assured that government welfare schemes would continue to reach the poorest sections without interruption and appealed to voters to ensure a decisive victory for Sandeep Salgaonkar for the overall progress of Porvorim.
