MAPUSA: The Food and Drugs Administration (FDA), North Goa, continues its rigorous surveillance of food businesses in the Anjuna and Mapusa areas to ensure public health and food safety standards are upheld.
As part of the ongoing inspections, 12 food premises were visited by the FDA team. During the inspection, two establishments were ordered to shut down for serious violations: a fast-food outlet operating under the name Indian Momos at the Assagao junction, and a Hyderabadi Dum Biryani outlet. Additionally, Janta Ice Factory, found operating without the mandatory FDA licenses, was directed to suspend operations immediately.
The remaining premises were issued improvement notices to rectify identified shortcomings and ensure compliance with the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006.
A special surveillance inspection was also conducted at Alankar, Mapusa, to monitor hygiene and sanitation practices more closely. While the majority of establishments have made efforts to comply with the norms, two outlets – Ms. Zaiqua and Ms. Bobby Fast Food – were found flouting key safety regulations. Consequently, fines of ₹10,000 and ₹8,000 respectively were imposed under Section 69 of the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006.
The inspection drive was led by Designated Officer Richard Noronha and comprised officers Rajaram Patil, Amit Mandrekar, Nousin Mulla, and Sneha Gaude. The operation was conducted under the guidance of FDA Director Shweta Dessai.
The FDA reaffirms its commitment to public health and urges all food business operators to maintain strict hygiene standards and comply with regulatory norms.
