SATTARI: Panic gripped a government primary school in Poriem, Sattari, after a ceiling fan came crashing down during class hours on Thursday, injuring a student.
According to reports, the incident occurred shortly after the school building had undergone recent renovation works.
The injured student was initially rushed to the Community Health Centre at Sanquelim and later shifted to the Asilo Hospital in Mapusa for further medical treatment.
Local authorities and education department officials have initiated an inquiry into the incident to determine the cause of the fan’s fall.
Meanwhile, parents and residents have expressed serious concern over the quality and safety of renovation work carried out in government schools.
They have demanded a thorough inspection of infrastructure in all government-run educational institutions to prevent such accidents in the future.
