PANAJI: The High Court of Bombay at Goa has asked PWD to submit a compliance report regarding the completion of the water supply projects at Ganjem (Usgao) as well as the estimated completion dates for the projects.
The High Court had earlier ordered PWD representatives to personally inspect the village’s water supply situation and submit a compliance report. The High Court is currently deliberating a public interest litigation petition filed by residents of Usgao led by one Rohan Rauji Naik.
Although there is a significant supply of water, the PWD stated in its report that things will get better as soon as the two outstanding projects are finished. A project to improve the distribution network at Palwada, Navewada, and surrounding areas in Usgao Ganjem village panchayat has been tendered and is awaiting expenditure sanction.
Another project is to construct a 25 MLD water treatment plant on the Mhadei River at Ganjem. This project is said to be in progress and 80% completed.
“We anticipate that the Respondents will specify the timeframe for which the aforementioned statements will be followed. A responsible Officer of the Water Works Department is required to file the affidavit within two weeks of today, according to the High Court bench made up of Justices M. S. Karnik and Valmiki Sa Menezes.
