CALANGUTE: Three stores in Calangute were shut down by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) on Friday for allegedly selling inferior cashew nuts. Following the failure of quality testing on cashew nut samples from these stores, action was taken.
The three stores—Shree Ram Enterprises, owned by Avinash Powar; Gujarati Cashew, owned by Sohan Lal; and M/s Dwarkadish Cashew, controlled by Parveen Bishnoi—were discovered to be selling cashew nuts of lower quality.
The FDA officials sealed the store and ordered the owners to cease operations immediately in light of the findings. Officials stated that the shop owners will face additional legal action.
“This action aims to curb the sale of substandard food items in the market and ensure that only quality products are sold to consumers,” officials stated.
Under the direction of FDA director Shweta Desai, FDA officials Richard Noronha, Rajaram Patil, Bhakti Walke, Pradiksha Chopdekar, and others conducted the search.
The FDA has conducted three raids since the start of the current tourist season in response to allegations that Calangute cashew nut businesses were selling tourists stale cashew nuts.
