PORVORIM: The Goa Industrial Development Corporation (IDC) has rejected Sunburn’s proposal to relocate to Quitol in the face of growing opposition from locals and legislators. At the Monday IDC Board meeting, a decision was made.
“Sunburn’s proposal to hold the EDM festival at Quitol was brought before the IDC Board, and we rejected it because it is not in our rules,” Aleixo Lourenco, the chairman of the IDC, said late Tuesday night to reporters outside the Assembly complex.
In response to criticism from the Assembly’s opposition leaders, Lourenco defended himself by claiming that they were singled out for attention without doing any fact-checking. “Sunburn takes place annually.
“This is not the initial instance. I did not suggest Sunburn. The event is private. The Opposition is left with no choice but to go after me. They do this out of habit rather than researching the matter,” he remarked.
When the issue came up in the Assembly, Leader of the Opposition Yuri Alemao demanded that the organizers file a formal complaint (FIR) for selling early bird tickets without getting government approval. The government’s plan to support the event was questioned by the other opposition MLAs as well, who claimed it was filled with anti-social activities.
