SANCOALE: BJP candidate Sunil Gawas formally filed his nomination for the upcoming Zilla Panchayat elections from the Sancoale constituency on Friday morning, signalling the beginning of an active and coordinated campaign by the party in the area. Gawas was accompanied by Panchayats Minister Mauvin Godinho, several municipal councillors, panch members of Chicalim and Sancoale Panchayats, and other local BJP leaders who turned up in large numbers to demonstrate their support.
The day began with a visit to the Damodar Temple, where the minister and party members offered prayers before proceeding to the nomination centre. The temple visit, which drew a sizeable crowd of supporters, was followed by a brief interaction with locals before the delegation moved ahead for the formal filing of papers.
Speaking after the nomination, Panchayats Minister Mauvin Godinho said the party had made a confident start to its ZP campaign in Sancoale, adding that the response on the ground had been “tremendous.” He noted that the BJP had earlier secured an unopposed victory in the constituency but had chosen not to pursue the same route this time. “We want a fair election. We are not forcing anyone to withdraw. Let there be a real contest so that the people choose their representative freely,” he said.
Godinho said various sections of society had come together in support of Sunil Gawas, with councillors, panch members, sarpanchas and grassroots karyakartas actively participating in the door-to-door outreach and corner meetings already underway. He added that the BJP’s record in utilising ZP funds for development works had strengthened public confidence.
“With a double-engine government at the state and Centre, we are well-positioned to deliver more development. We are confident that our candidate Sunil Gawas will win comfortably,” Godinho said, reaffirming the party’s belief that their organisational strength and sustained public connect would reflect positively in the upcoming polls.
