New Delhi: In a display that exemplified both finesse and power, Suryakumar Yadav catapulted himself into the exclusive club of Indian players who have surpassed the 8,000-run mark in T20 cricket. This achievement coincided with Mumbai Indians’ crushing 8-wicket victory over defending champions Kolkata Knight Riders in the Indian Premier League. The match, which was dominated by Mumbai Indians from start to finish, marked their first win of the season.
Suryakumar’s entry into the 8,000-run club was as dramatic as his batting style suggests. During his explosive cameo against KKR, he scored an unbeaten 27 from just nine deliveries, including three fours and two sixes at a staggering strike rate of 300. This performance not only highlighted his prowess but also solidified his position among the top Indian T20 batsmen. The list of Indians who have achieved this milestone includes Virat Kohli at the summit with 12,976 runs, followed by Rohit Sharma with 11,851, Shikhar Dhawan with 9,797, and Suresh Raina with 8,654 runs.
Mumbai Indians’ win over KKR was not just a significant moment for Suryakumar but also a testament to their dominance over the Knight Riders. This victory marked their 24th win against KKR, the most by any team against a single opponent in IPL history. The match took place at the Wankhede Stadium, where Mumbai Indians recorded their 10th win against KKR, further reinforcing their stronghold at this venue.
Contributing significantly to KKR’s paltry total of 116 were the impressive bowling figures of Ashwani Kumar, a 23-year-old left-arm bowler making his IPL debut. Kumar took four wickets for 24 runs, setting the stage for Ryan Rickelton’s unbeaten 62, which helped Mumbai Indians end their two-match losing streak.
