PANAJI: Senior officials of the Goa Cricket Association met and congratulated India men’s cricket team captain Suryakumar Yadav during the prestigious Naman Awards ceremony held in New Delhi on Sunday.
GCA president Mahesh Dessai and general secretary Tulsidas Shetye interacted with the Indian skipper on the sidelines of the event and extended their congratulations following India’s recent triumph in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup final against New Zealand national cricket team.
The Goan sports administrators praised the team’s performance in the tournament and acknowledged Yadav’s leadership during the campaign. They highlighted the captain’s impact on the team and his role in guiding India to victory on the global stage.
Dessai described the meeting as a proud moment and noted that Yadav’s fearless approach to the game has made him a role model for aspiring cricketers. He said the Indian captain’s dedication and attacking style of play continue to inspire young players across the country.
He also expressed hope that youngsters in Goa would draw motivation from the achievements of players like Yadav and pursue sports with determination and passion.
During their interaction, the officials briefly discussed the rising popularity of cricket and other sports in the country. They also emphasised the importance of strengthening grassroots development programmes to nurture emerging talent and provide young athletes with opportunities to grow in competitive sport.
The Naman Awards, organised by the Board of Control for Cricket in India, recognise outstanding performances by Indian cricketers across different formats of the game. The ceremony celebrates players who have made notable contributions to the sport over the past season.
At the conclusion of the meeting, the GCA representatives conveyed their best wishes to Yadav for continued success as captain and expressed confidence that he would guide Indian cricket to further achievements in the years ahead.
