HUBBALI: South Western Railway (SWR) has undertaken an aerial survey of Castle Rock – Kulem Ghat Section using drone cameras.
SWR says that this Ghat Section of 27 Km (Braganza Ghat) is part of Western Ghats and receives very heavy rainfall in the monsoon. It is single line railway section with no road connectivity.
“Already since May inspections by foot, identification of vulnerable locations (prone to landslips, waterlogging etc.) are done, and preventive measures are in place (such as embankment walls, sandbags, shoring up of side walls with sleepers etc,” SWR said.
It is further said that drone cameras will record video of waterlogging spots on hill – top, weak spots, loose boulders, etc, SWR said.
Further, SWR said, if any vulnerable/weak spot is noticed, the dedicated team of engineers, technicians, and trackmen will immediately take remedial action to prevent damage/obstruction of railway track.
“It may be noted that, already to attend to any emergencies in Ghat section, Sandbags, ballast, boulders, tools & equipment are ready is dedicated monsoon wagons at Castle Rock, Kulem, Tinaighat,” it said.
