CANACONA: The 17th Ghumat Aarti Sammelan and the cultural festival ‘Taal Tandav 2025’ were inaugurated at Shree Mallikarjun Devasthan, Shristhal, on Saturday. The event, organised jointly by the Shristhal Ghumat Aarti Mandal and the Directorate of Art & Culture, witnessed enthusiastic participation from the local community.
After inaugurating the festival, Minister for Art & Culture Ramesh Tawadkar addressed the gathering and emphasised the importance of value-based education in shaping capable artists, athletes, and responsible citizens. “To progress in the fields of art and sports, education is equally important. Only value-based and quality education can build a strong, cultured society,” he said. Tawadkar also urged villagers to remain united, stressing that harmony and collective effort are essential for cultural preservation and development.
Shri Mallikarjun Devasthan President Rajendra Dessai highlighted Shristhal’s deep-rooted artistic legacy, remarking that nearly every household in the village nurtures talent. He credited the Minister for his continuous encouragement of youth and women in cultural activities, which has strengthened the village’s cultural identity.
Renowned classical singer Ashwini Jambhavlikar praised Canacona taluka as a vibrant hub of art and culture, observing that “artists here grow and flourish naturally.”
Among those present were Poinguinim Panchayat Sarpanch Savita Tawadkar, Aarti Mandal President Sandeep Chari, Bhajani Mandal President Prasad Gayak, Aarti Mandal Secretary Jatin Kale, Treasurer Vithoba Velip, and several others.
Founding members of the Aarti Mandal and young, emerging artists from the village were felicitated for their contributions and achievements.
