New Delhi: In a significant move to bolster regional stability, Taiwan’s Deputy National Security Adviser, Hsu Szu-chien, underscored India’s pivotal role in maintaining peace and stability in the Indo-Pacific. During his visit to India, Hsu emphasized the potential for enhanced economic ties and people-to-people exchanges between the two nations. This strategic engagement was further highlighted by his participation in the prestigious Raisina Dialogue, a platform that fosters critical discussions on global issues.
Hsu Szu-chien’s visit to India with a Taiwanese delegation marked a significant moment in the evolving relationship between the two countries. As a vital member of the Quadrilateral Security Dialogue (QUAD), India plays a crucial role in ensuring the Indo-Pacific’s security and stability. This perspective aligns with Taiwan’s strategic interests, as both nations seek to counterbalance growing regional challenges.
The economic relationship between India and Taiwan is witnessing a positive trajectory, with increased investments in Information and Communications Technology (ICT) and semiconductors. However, despite these advancements, there is currently no formal trade agreement between the two nations. Discussions are underway to establish a general trade pact, which could further boost economic cooperation.
One of the key challenges facing Taiwanese businesses in India is their unfamiliarity with the local business environment. Despite this, Hsu expressed optimism about the potential for growth, highlighting the friendly relations between the two nations. He also emphasized the need for direct flights between India and Taiwan to enhance connectivity and facilitate trade.
The absence of conflict of interest between India and Taiwan presents a unique opportunity for deepening their partnership. As both nations navigate the complexities of regional geopolitics, their collaboration could serve as a model for strategic cooperation in the Indo-Pacific.
