TALEIGAO: After nearly two months of interrupted water supply, most areas of Taleigao have finally begun receiving water again, bringing much-needed respite to residents. However, a few localities, including Palm Grove Estate in Cardoz Wada and sections of Porshebhat, remain without supply as final pipeline work continues.
The disruption stemmed from the detection of E.coli bacteria in the existing pipeline network, prompting the Public Works Department (PWD) to cut off water to several localities including Vodlem Bhat, Borbhat, Shankarwadi, Durbhat, Durgawadi, Cardoz Wada, and Porshebhat. In response, the department undertook a comprehensive replacement of pipelines servicing approximately 500 households.
PWD Executive Engineer Sarita Shirodkar confirmed that the majority of the affected areas—over 90 percent—now have their water supply restored. “Only Palm Grove Estate and parts of Porshebhat are pending. In Palm Grove, the installation of a 7-metre PVC pipeline was delayed due to continuous rainfall,” she said.
She added that if the weather permits on Wednesday, the remaining work will be carried out and water flow resumed by Thursday. In Porshebhat, although the old corroded pipelines have been replaced, final connection work is still ongoing.
Shirodkar also noted that during the period of disruption, water tankers were deployed as needed to ensure residents had access to water.
