Margao: The tall claims on handling and management of Covid pandemic made by the Chief Minister Dr. Pramod Sawant and Health Minister Vishwajit Rane have already fallen flat with the Covid Hospital in Margao turning into a danger zone with doctors, nurses and support staff turning positive with Covid infection and no alternate plan available with the Government to substitute the infected staff, claimed Leader of Opposition Digambar Kamat.
Kamat said the existing staff is under huge pressure and the entire machinery will collapse if government does not pay immediate attention to this serious issue.
“The government is pushing Goa into a Covid Destination. The Government has miserably failed in handling and management of Covid Pandemic in Goa. The lethargic approach of the government resulted in spread of Corona virus and rise in Covid Pandemic patents and number of deaths,” he said.
He said that government did nothing during the 40 days nation-wide lockdown with regards to creating testing facilities and quarantine facilities.
“Today, there is a huge backlog of almost 7,000 test reports pending. There is complete confusion and chaos at the administrative level. On one side the Health Secretary says that there is no need for another Covid hospital. The Chief Minister denies that the South Goa District Hospital will be made Covid centre,” he said.
He added, the Government is yet to withdraw its order asking private hospitals to reserve 20% beds in their ICU’s.
“The Government has miserably failed in providing proper and hygienic quarantine facility to the Covid positive patients. There are videos going viral of the pathetic condition at the designated Covid hospital in Margao. The patients and relatives are complaining about mismanagement and ill treatment given to them at the hospital, “ he alleged.
ONLINE EDUCATION IN GOA
Kamat said the Replies given by the Government in the Goa Legislative Assembly during the one day session have made clear that the BJP government completely failed to create any infrastructure and prepare a action plan for Online Education in Goa.
“I once again demand that the Government should make optimum use of the Intranet Optic Fibre Cable facility which has reached every Taluka and Panchayat in Goa to facilitate Online and Distance Education,” he added.
He said the Government must immediately issue orders extending “Work for Home” for the teachers till the situation becomes normal. I want to remind the government that the order issued asking the teachers to work from home will expire on 31st July 2020.
“The government needs to take all stake holders into confidence and come out with a comprehensive action plan on the Educational System,” he says.
ECONOMIC REVIVAL PLAN
“As the government has now passed the budget bulldozing the democratic values, I demand that the Chief Minister must immediately announce the Economic Revival Plain for the State of Goa,” he demanded.
Also, he said, the Government must announce a financial package for the Marginalised Sector.
“The Government must immediately clear all the backlog of the Pensions of DSSS, Griha Aadhar, Widows, Persons with Disabilities, Senior Citizens and Others,” he said.
