New Delhi: Former Bangladesh cricket captain Tamim Iqbal is on the road to recovery after suffering a sudden heart attack during a domestic T20 match in Dhaka. The 36-year-old opener, widely regarded as one of Bangladesh’s most successful batsmen, underwent emergency angioplasty to address a blockage in one of his heart arteries.
Doctors report that Iqbal’s condition is improving, and he has even begun walking following the procedure. However, medical professionals emphasize that the next 48 to 72 hours remain critical for his long-term recovery.
Health Directorate Director General Professor Abu Jafar stated, “Tamim’s condition is improving, and he has started walking a little. However, the next 48 to 72 hours remain critical. He must wait at least three months before resuming normal activities, including sports”.
The cardiac event occurred while Iqbal was playing for Mohammedan Sporting Club in a Dhaka Premier League game. He was immediately rushed to the hospital, where he received prompt treatment.
Professor Abdul Wadud, director of the National Institute of Cardiovascular Diseases, cautioned that while Iqbal’s heart function appears normal, there is still a risk of abnormal rhythms. “We have advised against immediate movement,” he added.
Iqbal expressed his gratitude to supporters and well-wishers through a heartfelt message on his Facebook account. He reflected on the fragility of life and the importance of unity, stating, “Some incidents make us realize the reality and how small this life is and in this small life whatever we can do or not everyone should stand beside everyone and this is my little request”.
As Iqbal continues his recovery, the cricket community and fans alike are rallying behind the beloved player, offering prayers and support for his swift return to health.
