New Delhi: India’s rising badminton star Tanvi Sharma and the men’s doubles pair of Hariharan Amsakarunan and M. R. Arjun advanced to the quarterfinals of the Orleans Masters after registering strong victories in their respective matches on Thursday.
Competing in Orléans, Tanvi Sharma continued her impressive run in the tournament with a confident win in the women’s singles round of 16. The World Junior Championships silver medallist defeated fellow Indian youngster Anmol Kharb in straight games, winning 21-14, 21-17 to secure her place in the last eight.
Tanvi had already made a strong statement earlier in the competition by defeating second seed Supanida Katethong of Thailand in the opening round, a result that highlighted her growing confidence and ability against higher ranked opponents. Her composed performance against Anmol ensured she maintained the momentum in the tournament.
In the men’s doubles event, Hariharan Amsakarunan and M. R. Arjun also delivered an impressive display to progress to the quarterfinal stage. The Indian duo defeated Scotland’s pair of Alexander Dunn and Adam Pringle in straight games.
The opening game proved to be a closely contested battle, with both pairs exchanging points in a tight contest before the Indians edged ahead to claim it 26-24. After gaining the early advantage, Hariharan and Arjun dominated the second game with aggressive play and strong coordination, sealing it comfortably 21-14.
The victory was completed in just 35 minutes, confirming the Indian pair’s place in the quarterfinals. Their performance demonstrated effective teamwork and consistency, qualities that will be crucial as they face tougher challenges in the next round.
With these results, India’s campaign at the Orleans Masters received a boost, as both the singles and doubles events saw Indian players progressing into the later stages of the tournament.
