PANAJI: The much-anticipated Ro-Ro ferry service between Ribandar and Chorao is expected to commence operations within the next ten days, pending final approval from the state government. Vikramsinh Rajebhosale, Director of the River Navigation Department, confirmed that the government has approved the fare structure for the service. The service is aimed at easing traffic congestion and improving connectivity between the mainland and Chorao Island.
As per the approved fare structure, pedestrians and two-wheeler riders will be allowed to use the ferry free of cost. Private four-wheelers will be charged ₹30 per trip, with a reduced rate of ₹15 available to monthly pass holders. Vehicles operated by rent-a-car agencies will pay ₹100 per trip, while tourist-owned vehicles will be charged ₹300. Tourists opting to take the ferry for leisure rides will be required to pay ₹50 per day.
Officials stated that the ferry service is part of a larger initiative to offer more sustainable and efficient transport solutions in the region. It is expected to provide commuters and tourists alike with a convenient and time-saving alternative to existing road routes.
