CANACONA: Asserting martyrs Mangesh Gaonkar (Gaondongrim) and Dilip Velip (Balli), will always remain a reflection of the importance of the ST movement, Speaker Ramesh Tawadkar informed their legacy will shine forever as the beacon of hope and the necessity to stand united in the face of adversity,
After garlanding the statue (Bust) of Mangesh Gaonkar at his residence at Ziltawadi-Gaondondgrim, Ramesh Tawadkar at a celebration held at Shri Balram Residential High School, Amone declared he will felicitate and make all-out efforts to build Grand-Monuments of martyrs Mangesh Gaonkar and Dilip Velip, who both laid their lives at the Balli agitation 13 years ago.
Tawadkar also informed that he is also working to build a permanent monument of ST stalwart Birsa Munda in the State of Goa.
“My goal is the development of all common people. Let us also reflect on the importance of the ST movement and the need to ensure the well-being and empowerment of marginalized communities. The sacrifices of Mangesh and Delip will never be allowed to go in vain, and their legacy will forever shine as a beacon of hope, reminding us of the long journey ahead and the necessity to stand united in the face of adversity. May their souls rest in peace, and may their sacrifices never be forgotten’, Tawadkar said asserting that in the coming period, construction of a grand permanent monument of Mangesh Gaonkar and Dilip Velip along with Dhartiaba Birsa Munda will be given priority.
Speaker Ramesh Tawadkar was speaking in the ‘Sankalp Day’ program organized in the auditorium of Balaram Residential School in association with Adarsh Yuva Sangh and Balaram Shikshan Sanstha.
On this occasion, the President of the Balram Education Society Ankush Gaonkar, Treasurer Ganesh Gaonkar, Secretary Janu Tawadkar, BJP Yuva Morcha President Prabhakar Gaonwkar, Vice President Anthony Barbosa, Balram Residential School Headmistress and Sarpanch of VP Painguinim Savita Tawadkar, Sarpanch of Shristhal Sejal Gaonkar, Secretary of Yuva Sangh Ashok Gaonkar were present.
While Ankush Gaonkar narrated the background of the ST movement, Prabhakar Gaonkar and Anthony Barbosa presented their views.
While Mrs Tawadkar was introduced and welcomed, in the beginning, all the present dignitaries themselves placed a wreath at the image (portrait) of Mangesh Gaonkar and Dilip Velip.
After that, a minute’s silence was observed for both the martyrs. The program was conducted by teacher Sanjay Gaonkar, and Balram Day-A Care School Headmaster Ashok Gaonkar proposed a vote of thanks.
Earlier, Speaker Ramesh Tawadkar along with Poinguinim Sarpanch Savita Tawadkar and others went to Ziltawadi and paid tribute to the statue of Mangesh Gaonkar one of the two martyrs of the Balli Riot by offering floral garlands.
