CANACONA: Canacona MLA and Speaker Ramesh Tavadkar has been elected as the Chairman of the organising committee of the government to celebrate the Shigmo festival to be held in Canacona taluka on March 21.
Canacona Municipal Council Chairperson Ramakant Naik Gawkar has been elected as the Reception Committee Chairman. In contrast, Babesh Borkar, President of Canacona Patrakar Sangh and social worker, has been selected as the Working President.
Canacona Municipal Council has called a special meeting at the Disaster shelter Home at Nagarcem on Thursday to elect the committee. CMC Chief Officer Madhu Narvekar was present at the meeting.
The other committee members elected were Secretary – Sarvanand Bhagat, Joint Secretary Subhash Mahale and Vishal Desai, Treasurer -Councillor Sara Desai, Asstt. Treasurer Vinay Tubki. Vice-presidents CMC Dy. Chairperson Laxuman Pagi, Councillor Shubham Komarpant, Loliem-Polem Dy Sarpanch Chandrakant Sudhir, Zilla Panchayat Members Shobhana Velip and Shanu Velip were elected as vice-presidents.
As proposed by Chairman Tawadkar, apart from that, all the councillors and Sarpanch of the Canacona constituency have been included in the Welcome Committee. Chairman Ramesh Tavadkar, while guiding the citizens at the meeting, said, ‘ Canconcars are always at the forefront in organising any event, and we will also organize Shigamotsav in Canacona in the best possible way.
Earlier, while CMC Chairperson Ramakant Naik Gawkar welcomed the attendees, various personalities such as Soiru Komarpant, Shamba Desai, Dilip Kenkre, Sanjay Komarpant, Babesh Borkar, Ajit Painginkar, Vishal Desai, Vinay Tubki, Sara Desai, Sarvanand Bhagat, Laxuman Pagi were amongst others who presented their views and various suggestions.
The next meeting of the Canacona Shimgotsav Committee is scheduled on March 8 at 4.30 pm in the same Disaster Shelter Home, Nagarcem, declared in the meeting.
