CANACONA: Speaker and Canacona MLA Ramesh Tawadkar has urged the Fisheries Minister Nilkant Halarnkar to expedite the maintenance dredging and upgradation of the Talpona Fishing Jetty.
In a meeting held on the last day of the Monsoon Session of the Goa Legislative Assembly, Tawadkar discussed with the Fisheries Minister the need for dredging the channel area of Talpona Jetty to ensure smooth vessel movement under the Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana (PMMSY) at an estimated cost of ₹5.39 crore. He also sought the upgradation of the jetty into an eco-friendly, modern, integrated fish landing facility at a projected cost of ₹17 crore.
According to sources in the Speaker’s office, Halarnkar assured that the process would be initiated soon and necessary steps would be taken to complete the works at the earliest.
The meeting was attended by Director of Fisheries Smt. Sharmila Monteiro, Deputy Director Velip, and WAPCOS Consultant Rajwansingh.
Later, at the inauguration of the renovated Panchayat Ghat at Poinguinim, Tawadkar reiterated that measures had been taken to stop erosion along the Talpona shore and confirmed that the jetty works would be undertaken without delay.
