CANACONA: Art & Culture Minister Ramesh Tawadkar on Saturday urged Traditional Shigmo Mandals across Goa to register with the Directorate of Art & Culture at the earliest to avail Special Grants ranging between ₹1.5 lakh and ₹2 lakh for the purchase of Dhol-Tanse and traditional Shigmo attire.
Addressing the gathering after inaugurating Ekata Utsav-2026, an Exhibition-cum-Sale organised by Ekata Yuva Sangh, Quepem, in association with the Directorate of Art & Culture, Government of Goa, at Bhagwan Mahaveer Government High School ground, Padi, Quepem, Tawadkar said the government is committed to supporting traditional cultural custodians.
“Registered Traditional Shigmo Mandals should apply under the Special Grants scheme. The government will provide financial assistance between ₹1.5 lakh and ₹2 lakh for expenses towards Dhol-Tanse and traditional dresses for Shigmo celebrants who have protected and preserved this rich cultural heritage,” Tawadkar stated.
The Minister further informed that the Sports and Youth Affairs Department is also working on a new scheme to support youth-oriented clubs. “Clubs engaged in youth activities will soon be eligible for special grants ranging from ₹1 lakh to ₹5 lakh, based on prescribed criteria, which will be announced shortly,” he added.
Congratulating the organising committee, Tawadkar lauded Ekata Yuva Sangh for creating a vibrant cultural platform that promotes Goan traditions, unity and provides opportunities for local artists and cultural groups to showcase their talent.
As part of the programme, reporters from the Quepem area were felicitated at the hands of the Minister in recognition of their contribution to media and community awareness.
The event featured captivating performances of traditional Goan folk dances, which drew applause from the audience and highlighted Goa’s rich cultural heritage.
Prominent among those present were Ekata Yuva Sangh President Prakash Velip, Ekata Utsav-2026 Organising Chairman Shrikant Velip, Barcem Sarpanch and Vice-President Shanu Velip, among others.
Speaking on the occasion, Prakash Velip said that Ekata Yuva Sangh, through its annual Utsavs, will continue to serve as a platform celebrating unity, culture and local talent.
