CANACONA: Asserting that Canacona has both the potential and determination to rise, Speaker of the Goa Legislative Assembly and local MLA Ramesh Tawadkar on Sunday made a bold promise to produce 50 doctors and 100 engineers annually in the near future.
Speaking at his 57th birthday celebration held at Ravindra Bhavan, Canacona, Tawadkar revealed the launch of a local branch of Acharya Academy to help students prepare for competitive exams like NEET and JEE. “We have set the foundation, and soon Canacona will contribute 50 doctors and 100 engineers every year,” he declared.
Highlighting his developmental agenda, Tawadkar said he pays no attention to criticism from 80% of people, choosing instead to move ahead with the support of the remaining 20%. He announced plans to expand the Shram-Dham initiative — raising the current 1,000 volunteers to 5,000 in the next five years and constructing Shram-Dham houses across Goa, from Pernem to Canacona.
“My mission is clear — by the end of five years, no one in Canacona should be without a proper house,” Tawadkar affirmed. He also claimed that more developmental work was achieved in the past three years of his current tenure than during his earlier stint as a minister.
In a lighter vein, Tawadkar said, “I’ve been ridiculed even for entering paddy fields, but I can proudly say I have more experience cultivating rice than most of the 39 MLAs in the Assembly.”
He also remarked, “I am proud to say that 95% of BJP karyakartas from Canacona do not consume alcohol.”
The event was attended by Cuncolim MLA Rajesh Naik, Sanvordem MLA Ganesh Gaonkar, Mormugao MLA Sankalp Amonkar, St. Andre ZP Dhaku Madkaikar, BJP State General Secretary Sarvanand Bhagat, and several other local leaders and sarpanchas, who praised Tawadkar’s vision and dedication.
