Colvale: Taxi drivers from across Goa on Tuesday expressed strong resentment against new regulations introduced by GMR at Manohar International Airport, Mopa, which impose a ₹210 fee on vehicles waiting beyond 2–5 minutes in the pickup zone.
The drivers argued that the stipulated time limit is unrealistic, citing practical difficulties in coordinating with arriving passengers, handling luggage, and navigating airport procedures. They said the rule is unfairly penalising taxi operators and affecting their livelihoods.
As part of the protest, a large number of taxi drivers gathered at Colvale, demanding an immediate rollback or relaxation of the waiting-time restriction. Following police intervention, a 15-member delegation of taxi drivers proceeded to Mopa Airport under police protection to hold discussions with GMR officials.
The taxi unions warned that if their concerns are not addressed, they would intensify the agitation in the coming days, potentially disrupting airport transport services.
GMR officials were yet to issue an official response at the time of filing this report.
