PANAJI: Transport Minister Mauvin Godinho today said that taxi operators themselves have malfunctioned or broken speed governors in their taxis.
“Taxi operators themselves broken the speed governor in their taxi. As per the HC direction we installed digital meter’s for taxi but we find that nobody is using them,” said Godinho.
He further said that people in the country are laughing on us because we don’t have Ola/Uber.
“This is due to taxi operators we did not bring them. It is high time that all the operators adopt app. Government will also get correct data if they go on the app,” he added.
According to him, there is no need for rent-a-cab subsidies. We provided subsidies during the Covid era, but going forward, we will only offer incentives to users who have registered for the app. If they are not on App, it will be expensive for them, he stated.
The minister brought up the fact that, despite the high court’s directives, very few taxi operators are actually using the digital meters that were installed.
“We installed digital meters in taxis as per a high court order, but how many people are actually using them?” Minister said.
Mauvin also said that they are thinking differently about taking action. Speed governors are also required to be installed in rent-a-cab taxis; however, some have installed them but are not in use, and some have not installed any at all.
