MARGAO: The South Goa Taxi Association has lodged a police complaint against a social media influencer over a viral reel that allegedly described local taxi operators as a “mafia” for charging ₹10,000 for a trip from Goa to Malvan.
Taxi operators refuted the claim, stating that the fare charged for the journey was ₹5,500, which they maintained was below the government-approved rate. The association termed the allegation misleading and damaging to the reputation of taxi drivers in the region.
Union representatives said the video created a negative perception about taxi services and demanded clarification from the influencer. They also urged authorities to take appropriate action over what they described as false and defamatory statements.
The association further maintained that fare structures are regulated and insisted that drivers adhere to approved pricing norms. Police are expected to examine the complaint and verify the claims made in the viral reel.
