ANJUNA: Renowned social worker and prominent voice of Goa’s taxi operators, Yogesh Govekar, has officially joined the Congress Party, placing his trust in the party’s promise of better governance. Congress leaders said Govekar’s commitment to public welfare and his influence among taxi owners will further strengthen the organisation. “We warmly welcome Yogesh Govekar to the Congress family,” the party stated.
Meanwhile, the coastal political landscape is bracing for fresh turbulence with Govekar — popularly known as Mogambo — formally declaring his intention to contest the upcoming Zilla Panchayat elections from Anjuna, a constituency reserved for the OBC category.
A well-known figure for his outspoken views and leadership within the taxi sector, Govekar confirmed that he is gearing up to take on the BJP, either as an Independent or as a consensus nominee of the Opposition alliance.
“Yes, I am contesting the ZP elections from Anjuna. Discussions are underway with opposition parties so that I can be the joint opposition candidate against the BJP,” Govekar said.
With his entry into Congress and his growing political ambitions, the battle for Anjuna ZP is now poised for a sharper contest.
