Vasco: A taxi operating without valid documents allegedly caused a multi-vehicle accident on the National Highway at Matve, Dabolim, leaving several people injured.
According to a complaint lodged by Head Constable Rajesh Bandokar of Vasco Police Station, the incident occurred on March 9 at around 1.15 pm.
Police said accused Raj Kori, a resident of Dongri, Dabolim, was driving a taxi Toyota Innova carrying passengers from Cortalim towards Chicalim. The vehicle allegedly belonged to Hamid Shaikh, a resident of Chimbel, Tiswadi.
Investigations revealed that the vehicle was being operated without a valid fitness certificate and insurance, and the driver was not holding a valid taxi driver badge. While travelling on the highway near Matve, the accused allegedly drove the vehicle in a rash and negligent manner, endangering human life.
The taxi first collided with a mini bus carrying passengers that was travelling from Chicalim towards Cortalim. The Innova then rammed into a Swift Dzire car and a Chevrolet car that were also proceeding in the same direction.
As a result of the crash, the driver of the Swift Dzire Sahil Mandrekar, a resident of Bardez, along with Vikas Horaginaani of Dongrim, who was travelling in the Innova, sustained simple injuries. Meanwhile, passengers of the Chevrolet car, Hema Pokharna and Vedika Pokharna, suffered grievous injuries, police said.
Further investigation into the case is being carried out by HC Rajesh Bandokar of Vasco Police Station.
