PORVORIM: A late-night accident on NH-66 claimed the life of an 18-year-old woman after a Toyota Innova Crysta collided with a Maruti Ertiga near the Holy Family Church junction early Monday.
Porvorim Police registered the offence on November 17 at 4:48 pm based on a state complaint filed by HC Vivekanand Divkar.
According to the complaint, the accident occurred at around 2:20 am when the accused driver, Malik Rihan Khatib, 22, of Betim, was allegedly driving his Innova Crysta (GA-07-F-8410) in a rash and negligent manner while travelling from Mapusa towards Porvorim.
Police said that on reaching the junction opposite Holy Family Church, in front of Saraswat Bank, the Innova crashed into a Maruti Ertiga (GA-03-AH-5117) that was crossing the road towards an internal lane. Passengers in the Ertiga sustained injuries.
One of the occupants, Ms. Lavanya Joon, 18, a resident of Burari, North Delhi, suffered grievous injuries and later succumbed while undergoing treatment.
An offence has been registered against the driver under relevant sections of law. Further investigation is being conducted by PSI Sanket Talkar of Porvorim Police Station.
