OLD GOA: A 19-year-old woman was seriously injured after her scooter was hit from behind by a goods carrier at the Ribandar–Merces flyover on the Panaji–Ponda NH-748 road on Wednesday afternoon.
According to Old Goa Police, the accident occurred around 12:20 p.m. on October 15 when the driver of a Tata Ace goods carrier (GA-03-V-1895), identified as Ritesh Tari (51), resident of Caranzalem, Madkai, Ponda, was driving rashly and negligently towards Old Goa. The vehicle allegedly rammed into a Fascino scooter (GA-07-AJ-9578) that was proceeding in the same direction.
The scooter rider, identified as Janhavi Vinodkar (19), resident of Chinchwada, Chimbel, sustained serious injuries in the collision and is currently undergoing treatment at Goa Medical College and Hospital, Bambolim.
Police have registered Crime No. 125/2025 under Sections 281 and 125(b) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) 2023 at Old Goa Police Station based on a complaint by Head Constable Yogesh Palni (HC 7541) attached to Old Goa Police Station.
Further investigation is underway.
