New Delhi: At least 19 people, including 10 women, eight men, and a three-month-old infant, were killed when a Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TSRTC) bus collided with a tipper truck in Ranga Reddy district, Telangana, on Monday. The bus was carrying 72 passengers at the time of the accident. Several others sustained serious injuries.
According to preliminary reports, the collision occurred in the early hours when the tipper truck, reportedly coming from the wrong side, rammed into the RTC bus. Additional Director General of Police (Law and Order) Mahesh Bhagwat confirmed the updated death toll and said rescue operations are ongoing. TSRTC personnel and emergency teams have reached the site to assist the injured.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed grief over the tragic loss in a post on X, calling it “deeply saddening.” He extended condolences to the families of the victims and wished a speedy recovery to those injured. The Prime Minister also announced an ex gratia of ₹2 lakh each from the Prime Minister’s National Relief Fund (PMNRF) for the next of kin of the deceased and ₹50,000 each for the injured.
Former Telangana Minister and BRS Working President K. T. Rama Rao expressed shock and grief over the tragedy. In an official statement, he condoled the loss of lives and requested the state government to provide immediate assistance to affected families, including quality medical care for the injured.
Telangana Transport Minister Ponnam Prabhakar also expressed condolences and directed officials to ensure immediate relief. He spoke to TGSRTC MD Nagi Reddy and the Rangareddy District Collector, instructing them to provide quality medical treatment to the injured and oversee rescue operations.
Telangana IT and Industries Minister Duddilla Sridhar Babu, who oversees the erstwhile Ranga Reddy district, also expressed anguish over the incident near Mirzaguda in Chevella mandal. Upon receiving information, he alerted the District Collector, police, and senior officials, seeking a detailed report on the cause of the accident. He instructed the Medical and Health Department to ensure the best care for the injured at Chevella Government Hospital and personally supervised relief efforts. Sridhar Babu further directed officials to keep victims’ families informed about the condition of their loved ones and reassured them that the government stands firmly with those affected.
Rescue and relief operations are ongoing at the site as authorities continue to provide assistance to the injured and support to the families of the deceased.
