TELAULIM: The Telaulim village gram sabha on Sunday once again reaffirmed its strong opposition to mega housing projects with 100 Floor Area Ratio (FAR), urging the Town and Country Planning (TCP) Department not to permit such large-scale developments in the village.
The meeting, chaired by Sarpanch Franny Barretto, also adopted a resolution demanding that the TCP refrain from approving any construction on open spaces, emphasizing the need to preserve the village’s natural environment and character.
The renewed resolution comes in the wake of a similar stand taken at the previous gram sabha, underscoring the villagers’ continued resistance to high-density projects.
Speaking after the meeting, Deputy Sarpanch Estevan Goes said the members were compelled to restate their opposition as the TCP Department had not given a positive response to the earlier resolution. “The gram sabha has made it clear that the people of Telaulim do not want 100 FAR projects,” he said.
Sources revealed that when the panchayat had earlier conveyed its stand to the department, TCP officials reportedly stated that they would adhere to government rules on the matter, leaving villagers dissatisfied.
Meanwhile, the gram sabha also discussed the construction of four water bodies for irrigation by the Water Resources Department (WRD). Members urged that the works be completed on schedule and requested that stored water not be released in March, but only in May, when it is most needed for agricultural purposes.
The meeting further took note of an application submitted to the panchayat seeking details about house tax assessments and properties within the panchayat jurisdiction.
