Banastari: A heated altercation allegedly stemming from a temple-related dispute escalated into a violent clash between members of the Gaonkar family in Banastari, Marcel on July 31, resulting in cross complaints and injuries.
In the first complaint, Vishwajith Fadte Gaonkar, a resident of Banastari, alleged that around 3:00 PM, he was assaulted with a danda (wooden stick) by Piyush Fadte Gaonkar. He further stated that another accused, Satyaki Mahabaleshwar Fadte Gaonkar, not only slapped him but also assaulted his father, Balchandra Fadte Gaonkar. The complainant added that both accused used abusive language and issued threats of dire consequences. This matter is currently under investigation by ASI Vijay Avakhale of Mardol Police Station.
In a cross complaint, Satyaki Fadte Gaonkar alleged that on the same day and time, he was abused with filthy language and assaulted with fist blows by Vishwajith Fadte Gaonkar. He further claimed that Balchandra Fadte Gaonkar hit him with a wooden stick, causing injuries to his head and left hand. This case is being investigated by Head Constable Prakash Naik (HC 5251) of the same police station.
Both parties are residents of Banastari, Marcel, and the altercation appears to have stemmed from longstanding tensions related to a local temple.
Police have registered cross FIRs and are continuing their investigation to determine the sequence of events and verify witness accounts.
